Job Summary – Accountant

The Accountant supports CARE Uganda’s financial operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reports and practices. Key responsibilities include:

  • General Ledger: preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling accounts payable and receivable, and preparing monthly financial analysis reports.
  • Accounts Payable: reviewing supporting documents, ensuring correct coding, and providing guidance to accounting assistants.
  • Accounts Receivable: accurately recording transactions, preparing donor billings, and following up on receivables.
  • General Finance and Accounting: reviewing financial commitments, processing payments, and preparing reconciliations.
  • Cash Management: preparing cash flow projections, monitoring cash book and bank balances, and determining available funds.
  • Promoting gender equity, diversity, and safeguarding practices.

Qualifications of the Accountant

  • Academic Requirements: Professional qualification (CPA/ACCA) and postgraduate qualification in a related field.
  • Skills and Experience: 5+ years of experience in finance and accounting, with experience working for an international NGO. Demonstrated knowledge of donor rules and regulations, financial management systems, and PeopleSoft ERP.
