Gender Equality Strategist

Job Summary: 

As the Gender Equality Strategist for the RiD Project, you’ll play a crucial role in advancing gender equity. Your responsibilities include implementing and monitoring the Gender Equality Strategy, providing technical support to project teams, and fostering inclusive practices. You’ll collaborate with leadership teams, advise on diversity and inclusion efforts, and establish strategic linkages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of the Gender Equality Strategy.
  • Provide technical support to project teams, including developing tools and internal communications.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and promote gender perspectives across project areas.
  • Influence decision-making through a gender lens.
  • Strengthen team capacities for gender integration.
  • Ensure quality gender-related data reporting.
  • Collaborate with partners to capture best practices and learning experiences.
  • Support project management and resource mobilization efforts.

General Duties:

  • Attend regular PMU meetings and provide feedback.
  • Actively participate in planning, budgeting, M&E, and reporting.
  • Represent the project and PELUM Uganda in strategic partner events.
  • Advise staff, board, and PELUM members on gender-related issues.
  • Support resource mobilization activities.


  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification/training in Gender studies (preferably at Master’s level).

Industry Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in gender inclusion programming and strategy development within the agriculture sector.
  • Extensive expertise in developing gender-transformative programs related to agriculture and food security.

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills (working knowledge of French is advantageous).
  • Experience in training, mentoring, and capacity-strengthening techniques.
  • Ability to package research effectively for policy and practitioner audiences.
  • Knowledge of policy-making processes and engagement with government policymakers.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
