 Peace and Development Officer

The Peace and Development Officer works under the direct supervision and guidance of the PDA to provide substantive support in three main areas of activity:

Research and Analysis:

Gather and process relevant data and information related to the UN’s role and activities in Uganda and the sub-region.
Focus on key conflict prevention and peacebuilding actors and entities.
Emphasize peacebuilding, social cohesion, conflict prevention, and sustainable development.

Inclusive Approaches:

Identify programmatic entry-points for conflict prevention.
Support inclusive and conflict-sensitive approaches, particularly regarding civil society, women, and youth.
Collaborate with national stakeholders on social cohesion, dialogue, and consensus-building.

Technical Support and Coordination:

Assist in coordinating existing partnerships between stakeholders (government, civil society, private sector, and international community).
Contribute to monitoring and evaluation efforts within the peace and development team.
Promote knowledge sharing and best practices in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.

Required Skills and Experience  for Peace and Development Officer:

Education:
Advanced university degree (Master’s Degree) in relevant fields (e.g., political science, conflict resolution, peace studies).
OR a first-level university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) with additional experience.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years (with Master’s degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s degree) in conflict analysis, development, or conflict prevention.
Extensive experience in analysis, research, and drafting.
Project/program development and management expertise.
In-depth knowledge of Uganda and/or the sub-region, including dialogue and conflict prevention initiatives.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Knowledge of Luganda and/or Swahili is advantageous.
Familiarity with another UN language is beneficial.
